For many children across rural Balkans, the start of the school year is not exciting. It is stressful. Some return to classrooms without backpacks, notebooks or pencils. Others walk into schools where the walls are cracked, the furniture is broken and the computers haven’t worked in years. A few arrive determined to learn, but without the equipment needed to participate at the same level as their peers.
Our Back to School program exists to change that, piece by piece, child by child, school by school.
It begins with dignity. Every year, Princip provides new backpacks filled with essential supplies for children whose families cannot afford them. For many students, this is the first new item they have ever owned. The shift is immediate. They walk straighter. They participate more. They no longer try to hide in the back of the classroom.
But the program goes far beyond school supplies.
We deliver laptops, tablets and computers for students who have fallen behind simply because they lacked the tools to keep up. We equip schools whose IT rooms have been outdated for decades. We renovate classrooms so children can learn in safe, clean environments. From desks to whiteboards to heating repairs, we rebuild the spaces where learning happens.
And for students who need more than materials to stay in school, we provide scholarships. These scholarships help children who show commitment and potential but face financial, social or family obstacles that could end their education early. When a child is given stability and support, their future expands.
Teachers tell us the changes are visible. Children who once avoided school start arriving early. Parents who were ashamed to send their children without supplies begin to speak with hope again. Classrooms become places where every child feels they belong, not reminders of what they lack.
Every delivery, every backpack, every repaired classroom and every scholarship is grounded in one belief, that a child’s potential should not be defined by their circumstances.
